Pololu IR Transceiver Video (Not made by me)
Transmission and detection cycle more than one thousand times per second => once every 0.001s
Website: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/701
3 Transceiver + Shipping : $96.85 --- Not plausible/ too expensive

Standard golf balls are 1.680 inches in diameter which is around 4.2cm
Thicket must have a maximum footprint of 20cm x 20cm including all components
Have to select a motor to open/close the hole below
Have to select a sensor to detect the robot's presence
Might have to make another layer for batteries/emitter circuits
Might have to adjust height to fit the final robot design
